Meet Wonton: The Autistic Panda Behind My Coziest Winter Days
Share
Winter is loud in all the wrong ways. The holidays show up with bright lights, crowded stores, surprise plans, and a lot of "go go go" energy. If you are autistic, disabled, introverted, or just tired, it can feel less like a cozy season and more like a sensory obstacle course.
I wanted a character who felt like the opposite of all that.Someone who moves slowly, notices the small things, and is built for quiet, gentle days.
That is how Wonton, the autistic panda, arrived in the Upper Room Prints universe. Wonton is part of my cozy winter stationery collection at Upper Room Prints, created with autistic and neurodivergent folks in mind.
Who Is Wonton, the Autistic Panda?
Wonton is soft spoken, observant, and steady. She is autistic coded on purpose. She prefers routine, quiet corners, and days that unfold at a calm, predictable pace.
She is not the life of the party. She is the friend who makes sure there is a blanket, a warm drink, and a place to sit where you are not in the middle of the chaos.
A few of Wonton’s core traits:
- Soft spoken and gentle
- Loyal and thoughtful
- Comfort focused
- Communicates through small gestures instead of big speeches
If Lily is the curious black cat who pulls people into the world of Upper Room Prints, Wonton is the one who makes sure you have somewhere soft to land once you get here.

Wonton’s Cozy Winter Vibe
Wonton lives in the quiet side of winter.
Think slow mornings, warm drinks, and hobbies you can do under a blanket. Snowy windows where you are inside, not out in the wind. The kind of day where you can hear the kettle, the pen on paper, and your own breathing.
Her color palette reflects that:
- Mint
- Cream
- Charcoal
- Soft brown
Nothing too bright or harsh. Just enough contrast to feel alive, but still calm on the eyes.
When you see Wonton in my art, she is usually doing something slow and grounding:
- Journaling
- Curling up under warm blankets
- Working on a small craft project
- Sitting by a snowy window
- Tucked into a quiet corner with a mug and a book
She is not here to hustle. She is here to remind you that it is okay to move at your own pace.

Why Wonton Is Autistic on Purpose
As an autistic creator, I am very aware of how often autistic characters are written as problems to solve or lessons to teach. I want Upper Room Prints to feel like neurodivergent friendly art, not homework.
Wonton is not that.
She is autistic because many of us are. She prefers routine, hates loud surprises, and does not enjoy rapid schedule changes. That is not a flaw in her design. It is part of who she is.
Her dislikes are simple and honest:
- Crowds
- Loud surprises
- Sudden changes in plans
Instead of trying to "fix" those traits, I built a world around her where they are respected. She gets to have quiet corners, predictable days, and people who understand that she needs time to adjust.
Wonton is a small, cozy reminder that autistic people deserve comfort, softness, and spaces that work for us, not just spaces we have to endure.

Design Details: Bringing an Autistic Panda to Life
When I was designing Wonton, I kept asking one question:
"How do I make her feel like a weighted blanket and a warm drink in character form?"
That shaped a lot of choices:
- Colors Mint, cream, charcoal, and soft brown keep her calm and winter friendly without feeling cold or sterile.
- Shapes Rounded edges, soft curves, and gentle expressions. Nothing too sharp or aggressive.
- Expression She is not constantly grinning. Sometimes she is neutral, sometimes a little tired, sometimes quietly content. The goal is to make her feel real and relatable, not performatively cheerful.
- Body language Wonton communicates through small gestures. The way she holds her mug, the tilt of her head, the way she tucks into a blanket. She is not loud, but she is very present.
All of that is intentional. I wanted people to look at her and feel their shoulders drop a little.
Wonton’s Role in Upper Room Prints’ Winter Collection
Every character in Upper Room Prints has a job.
Wonton’s role is to be the symbol of calm energy. She represents cozy productivity, not grind culture. She anchors the winter collections and brings a steady, grounding presence to a season that often feels frantic.
If you love cozy winter stationery and comforting character art, Wonton is probably your new favorite.
In practical terms, that means you will see Wonton show up in:
- Stickers that sit on your water bottle, laptop, or planner as tiny reminders to slow down
- Prints that turn your workspace into a softer, calmer corner
- Notebooks and stationery that hold your thoughts without yelling at you to "do more"
Her job is not to push you. Her job is to sit beside you while you figure out what you actually have energy for.
What Wonton Means to Me as an Autistic Creator
On a personal level, Wonton is a love letter to every version of me that felt "too slow" or "too sensitive" for the world around me.
She is the character I wish I had seen more of growing up. Someone who is autistic and quiet and not framed as a burden. Someone who is allowed to be gentle and still be the center of the story.
As an autistic creator running a very small business, I wanted a character who makes neurodivergent friendly art feel like home, not homework.
If you are autistic, disabled, introverted, or just exhausted by the pace of everything, I hope Wonton feels like a small permission slip. You are allowed to want quiet. You are allowed to build routines that work for you. You are allowed to be soft.
