Meet Edgar: The Gentleman Frog (and How He Grew Into Himself)
Edgar’s Origin Story
Let me introduce you to Edgar, the original gentleman frog of Upper Room Prints, and possibly the only amphibian you’ll meet who wears a bowler hat and loves a good book. Edgar’s story actually began thanks to my son, who, as an adult (yes, I have an adult child—wild, right?), asked me to create a frog bookmark for him. He named him Edgar, then requested that he be reading a book and sporting a bowler hat. And just like that, Edgar the Gentleman Frog was born.
From the start, Edgar has had his signature “gentleman-ish” personality, with a coat added to his look over time and, somehow, a bit of a British flair (though he used to greet everyone with a hearty “Halo!” in a thick German accent). His favorite hobbies? Reading and admiring flowers, very on brand for a gentle, bookish soul.
Edgar’s Place in Upper Room Prints
Edgar’s first appearance was that very bookmark, which soon became the first sublimated metal bookmark in my shop. He was also the first character I ever created for Upper Room Prints, long before Lily even had a name. In fact, Lily started as just the logo for my company and only got her name about a year later. Edgar was the first to get his own sticker sheet, making him a true URP original. While he’s never had a huge spotlight moment or special collection before, he’s always been there, quietly encouraging kindness and self-compassion. These are qualities that fit right in with the cozy, intentional, and inclusive universe of Upper Room Prints.
What Edgar Represents
What does Edgar represent? He’s a reminder that being gentle with yourself (and your mind) is always worth it. He’s the kind of character who doesn’t need to be flashy to be memorable; his quiet presence, love of books, and slightly nerdy charm make him a comforting friend for anyone who values slow, intentional living.

Fan-Favorite Edgar Product
One of my favorite Edgar products is a tote bag I designed back in 2024, featuring the top of his head and a cheerful “HALO!” (see below). It hasn’t gotten a ton of love, but it’ll always be special to me. Sometimes, the quietest characters are the ones that stick with you.
